Synopsis of In the Land of the Bears
In the Land of the Bears tells the story of the Bear Family. The family consists of Brother Bear and Sister Bear, their parents, Mommy and Daddy Bear and their pets, Doggy and Kitty.
The core story focuses on Brother and Sister Bear and sees the world through their eyes. It presents surroundings and situations in the home and at preschool familiar to young children. Brother and Sister Bear interact with bear friends their own age and with adults as well.
Pupils identify with Brother and Sister Bear. Just as important, along with them, they "experience" the adventures of Brother and Sister throughout the story.
The first and second chapters of the picture storybook introduce the Bear Family. The third and fourth chapters show Brother and Sister Bear welcoming a bright, new day and enjoying breakfast with their parents. In the fifth and sixth chapters, Brother and Sister Bear play in their rooms.
Chapters 7 through 11 take place at Miss May's preschool. Brother Bear and Sister Bear and their friends enjoy all the preschool's indoor activities in Chapters 7 and 8 and have fun with the outdoor activities of the preschool in Chapters 9 and 10.
All 11 chapters of the picture storybook include original EWAS songs that repeat words, phrases and sentences reflecting the language items featured in the chapters.
