Similar to previous revolutions throughout history, today’s Information Revolution has altered life radically. The Industrial Revolution of the late 18th and early 19th centuries created opportunities and wealth for some, but it also displaced many, wreaked havoc and threw masses into uncertainty and fear for their futures. Skills, knowledge and experience gained over the years were suddenly rendered irrelevant and useless.
The Information Revolution of today is no different. While for some it creates opportunities and wealth, among the many, it depreciates the value of their education, vocational training, hard-won knowledge and experience. Without a good, effective, and efficient overhaul of today’s education system and methodologies, the period of adaptation to and recovery from such a “revolution” will be lengthy and slow. Poverty and dependency will skyrocket and many will fail to succeed.
Today, public education models and many private ones as well are not in sync with the demands of this revolution. Children are still being taught skills of yesteryear. “Knowledge” and “information” are the focus, although both are readily available at the touch of a screen. Emotional development and communication skills are given short shrift or entirely neglected. As a society, we are failing the next generations by not focusing on the skills they need in order to thrive in the Post-Information Revolution society that has emerged.
Few pedagogues and educators have the expert know-how to take on the massive overhaul of education. Public sector education is notoriously slow at adopting and implementing needed change. And while private sector education focuses mainly on improving the educational process, it continues to rely on existing methodologies. Without immediate motivation and investment, change will be slow in both public and private sectors. And this slow pace does not meet the needs of the social and economic transformation of this revolution.
We at A Smile Education Group believe it is our calling and duty to ensure that the next generations will have the appropriate skills and practical experience to meet the challenges our world is creating. The transformation of education in its entirety is crucial for the Information Revolution to be successful. Without this change, societal differences and injustices will grow and the additional wealth accrued as a result of the revolution will need to be directed to caring for the needy.
We believe that education should not be solely theoretical, but learning should be practical and experiential. All species learn through experience. Only humans are taught theoretically. Most classrooms teach the theory of a particular topic, practice its implementation minimally, and then test the pupils’ retention of the subject matter.
We want to change this. We place experiential education at the forefront. Educational researchers have always found that children learn best through experience as opposed to theoretical explanation. All our company’s programs are with “A Smile” because they are experiential. And experiential education is fun. It puts A Smile on your face.
A Smile Education Group (ASEG) will provide extracurricular education programs for elementary school aged children in four subject areas: English language, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Physical Education and Well-being, and in Emotional Intelligence development. In addition, ASEG will provide a structured training and development program in leading educational methodologies and techniques for ASEG teachers.
A hybrid learning platform (ASEG-HLS) will be developed for the classroom as well as for remote learning to replace current media delivery methods (i.e., printed books and materials, audio and video players and others). The digital platform will link the teachers with the pupils and with the course content. ASEG will feature interaction between teachers and pupils to promote and develop person-to-person relationships, what we see as a fundamental and significant facet of education.
The ASEG-HLS will also provide the technical infrastructure to manage ASEG's operations, both commercial and pedagogic. All ASEG teachers, students and licensees will be managed through the ASEG-HLS. The ASEG-HLS will be developed to be a self-contained, stand-alone product that can be licensed to other educational institutions and organizations.
The extracurricular education market remains underdeveloped for the needs of most markets. Although multiple competitors abound internationally as well as locally for English language lessons, few organizations offer multiple disciplines that ASEG will offer. Fewer still have the sophisticated and advanced teaching methods that ASEG provides.
ASEG intends to be a global organization and therefore the market potential is unlimited. Moreover, by offering programs in several disciplines, ASEG will effectively be active in four separate education markets worldwide, most of which are underdeveloped.
ASEG’s founding team and planned management team will ensure strong leadership, whose values and visions are strongly aligned and realistic. ASEG will be built on the concepts of the “Infinite Game,” as described by Simon Sinek. ASEG is not going into business for a one-time win, but to establish a core service that will continue for generations. We are seeking investors who understand and accept the ASEG vision.
We anticipate rapid establishment of the English program—currently available for distribution—in the Israeli market. We forecast that revenues will meet operational costs by the end of the second year. In addition to operational costs for the first two years. Additional funding for initial marketing and sales activities, including website design, hosting and maintenance, branding, graphics work, online advertising, will also require initial financing. The estimated investment required is between $500,000 to $750,000.
Ideally, ASEG would like to find an investor to join the team providing financial support and guidance through the establishment phase and onward over the years as the company develops, with profits and/or dividends being shared after investments are returned. The ASEG team sees investors as equal contributors, with the Group creating value and the investors providing financing. All who contribute will benefit from the success of ASEG.
