Together in the Land of the Bears is a program designed to teach pupils listening comprehension and speaking skills in English. The program is an oral-aural, prereading course for young learners aged 6-9. The program targets young children who have completed Bobby English and the Bears. The program is suitable for both kindergarten and early primary school grade pupils. It is the third course in the English With A Smile series. The vocabulary and structures introduced and practiced are at a more advanced and challenging level than the language items in In the Land of the Bears and Bobby English and the Bears.
Synopsis of Together in the Land of the Bears
In Together in the Land of the Bears, Mother and Father Bear take Brother Bear and Sister Bear on interesting outings that Brother Bear and Sister Bear enjoy.
In the first and second chapters of the picture storybook, Mother Bear and the children go downtown using different types of transportation. EWAS pupils enjoy the excitement of Brother and Sister Bear as they ride in a taxi, on the subway and even on the top level of a double-decker bus.
In the third and fourth chapters, after arriving downtown, Brother and Sister Bear go shopping with Mother Bear. They go to a mall where they eat pizza, visit a bookstore, Mother buys a dress, they go into a music store, and buy candies and cookies and flowers.
In the fifth- and sixth-chapters Father Bear takes Brother and Sister to the park. They enjoy flying kites, playing tag, sailing toy boats and feeding the ducks and the swans.
The seventh and eight chapters are especially exciting. The Bear Children go with Father Bear to the zoo. They observe many different animals in very special and pleasant surroundings.
Chapters nine and ten show the family at home at the end of the day. Pupils see a typical family busy with quiet time end-of-the-day activities: computer games, TV, story time. They see a loving and caring family.
As in all our programs, EWAS pupils recognize the familiar settings in the story and identify with the characters. All 10 chapters of the picture storybook include original EWAS songs that repeat words, phrases and sentences reflecting the language items featured in the chapters.
